Advice needed on company cars / allowances etc

I am looking at taking a contract job that pays per hour. Have been told that I would not get a car or car allowance but it would just be bundled up as an hourly rate. But because of this I have also been told that I would not be paid petrol allowance for work. Someone mentioned I can claim all the work mileage/petrol on tax at the end of the year-is this true ? Thank you.

Yes it is true you can claim all your unreimbursed expenses, that assist or increase your earning potential, when you do your tax - every one in Aus is expected to fill in a tax return. Just be aware that you need to keep very good milage records. Tax dept loves cars.

Just as a side note, it is odd in my experience to be expected to do significant milage and not be paid some sort of direct car allowance.

Huge thanks. At least if they don't contribute to work trips in the car I can claim it on tax. Cheers :)
