Advice on 'the move'

Hi everyone,

I have read a million of these posts, however, this is my first.
My girlfriend(23) and I(29) are 100% keen on the move to Melbourne and have been since we got back from completing our 147 WHV around 12 months ago. The problem here is regarding our jobs and getting sponsorship (my girlfriend is a newly qualified Secondary English teacher and myself a plumbung and heating engineer). As i am lead to believe our skills may not be acknowledged over there. The question is, is she likely to get sponsorship for a teaching job from the UK or even at all?

Cheers in advance

Jeremy

Sponsorship is very hard to get. You would be better looking at skilled migration. Plumber is on the list. Yes, you would need to get some Australian qualifications, but that is separate from the visa.

You would be exceedingly fortunate to secure sponsorship. Most people cannot and do not, fortunately Australia has a skilled migrant program which sounds far more suitable for the two of you. I would go to Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection and have a read about the 189 and 190 visas.

A chance for the girlfriend teacher is perhaps looking at teaching in the Northern Territory. Department of Education - Home

Australia has too many teachers but as not many want to work in remote Indigenous areas I believe NT has sponsored overseas teachers before.

Not Melbourne I know but it could be a way in.

Hi Jeremy, just get the visa based on your plumbing skills and then worry about jobs afterwards. Employers are far more interested in you if you have a visa and an arrival date.
