Advice

My eldest lives in Perth and their expecting first grandchild in August. I visited for first time last November and it’s always been my ambition to move abroad as I’ve got older.
I’ve found out that due to visa laws the only way of me getting out there is when Matthew has been out there for 4 years which will be September 2020 and then he will have to sponsor me. But then if I go I can’t work.
Any advice on how I can survive apart from live off my house sale from here in the UK.

Are there any english groups/meet up groups to join?

Any advice greatly appreciated-my son is coming back to UK in 3 weeks time for visit so want to be able to discuss this with him.

Thank you

He can sponsor you when he is settled in Australia (with pr) - always used to be 2 years, I thought, so theoretically you could apply for a contributory parent visa now - they're taking about 4-5 years at the moment then you can move over with permanent residence including the capacity to work and in the meantime you can take long holidays. Start saving!

“Eldest lives in Perth” doesn’t means she passes the family balance test

That's true! Missed that one and made the assumption (as an only) that he was an only!

How many children do you have and where do they live? This is important for the visa.

Hi
yep I have 3! 2 others in the UK.
Ive been told once Matt in Auz has been there 4 years as he has permanent residency already he can sponsor me.
But what does this mean?

I don't think he can. You would have to pass a balance of family test (where 50% or more of your children do not live in the same country to you) before he could sponsor you. Being in Australia for 4 years has nothing to do with sponsorship.

The 870, the new temporary/visit parent visa, is launched in July. that might work to some extent as it does not require balance of family. It is howeverr not a permanent visa.

Nope, you're not going to pass the balance of family test. Nothing permanent then.

I am afraid tourist visits are your only option. One of the fundamental criteria for a parent visa is the balance of family test, which you do not pass

I'd be looking at a money earner that's not a 'job' as such. Something you can earn with, without obviously working. While famous artist, author, etc. might be difficult, having a property that you can live off the rent on is a possible. Then look to holiday, etc. rather than live permanently. Upshot, work out how much you need to live, then how you might source those earnings in a non-traditional way.
