Wink Advice for a 53 Yr Friend

Hi All

I have a friend who is 53 Years Old and is Maintenance Fitter, he is married but has no children. They would have around £200k plus pension etc.

They would love to emigrate to Australia, my friend still wants to work hopefully as a Maintenance Fitter.

Has anybody got any advice for them, which I could pass on, do you think they would be able to make the move, or his is age making the move a NO NO?

Any advice would be appreciated.

With thanks Daz

Not sure of the visa side of things (that's something best asked in the immigration forum I reckon), but if he's up for it - why not?

Hi

He could try these routes, not sure about how successful he will be but worth a try
ENS Visa

http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/ens/exemptions.htm

RSMS

http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/rsms/exemptions.htm

Also this, although I'm not sure about any age barrier

Business Visa

http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/business/more_info.htm

Probably be best speaking to a migration agent to explore his options.

There is a few possible visa's although they are harder to obtain unless you have significant funds. But still a possibility

If your occupation is job in demand, and you can get a sponsor there are no age restrictions.

I'm sure I'm not telling tales out of school but there is a certain friendly lion who was over 45 when he escaped his UK enclosure

I heard about him too.
Came over on a 457 temp visa and converted to an RSMS PR visa.

As I understand it the usual skilled visas are strictly closed at 45.

The options are probably limited to the sponsored visas mentioned by Wendy, plus a 457 temp visa.......and STNI, I don't know ?

I am not up to date on each of these but I did hear the age thing was being tightened. The farther away from 45 you are the more difficult it will be to get a visa.

Basically the employer has to justify why the person should be treated as a special case and the person would have to submit a justification when asked by DIMIA.

He definately needs to see an agent experienced in sponsorship visas and I recall JAJ saying not many are. Was it Ian Harrop he recommended ? http://www.ianharrop.co.uk

My gut feeling is that a regional sponsored visa (RSMS) is the best hope. It locks you into working for the sponsor in that regional area for 2 years then you are a free agent IF you want to move.
