Default advice for a 25 yr old from the uk wanting to move to oz

hi, im 25 from england, my mum has lived in oz (queensland) for around 3 years, and is soon elegible for citizenship, she married out there last year also.

shes paying for me to out for a month in feb/mar so i will get to check it out.

now im not sure what type of visa or whatever id need to apply for to become a resident/citizen of australia now i effectivley have 2 parents in oz.

i also have a grandparent who was born in australia but unfortunatley we cant find out which hostpital and have no records.

so would i need to appy for a migration based on family ties or for a skills based visa?
(my normal job from which i have just been made redundant was doing statistics for a large company, i also specialise in computers but have limited qualifications)

im pretty confused and do not have money to spend on an agent.

It doesn't sound like you've any chance of a skilled visa, even a skilled sponsored visa.

An Australian born grandparent wouldn't help you get migration or citizenship anyway.

Have you got any other close family (parents or siblings) - if so, where do they live?

What about close family outside Australia (parents, siblings, adult children)?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that generally means you're ineligible for the remaining relative visa.

If you read the requirements for remaining relative, you'll see that makes no difference as he lives in the same country.

WHV is an option, although only a temporary one.

The original poster could look to upgrade his skills by studying, either in the UK or Australia - but this needs to be approached with care.

Studying in Australia is an easy way to waste a lot of time and money if you don't know what you're doing and how both the student and migration rules work. Even when you do know, there are risks (like rules changing).

Jeremy

thanks for all the replies, i was just wondering, do they count countries within the UK as different countries, or do they class the UK as a single nation.

Think I am right in saying that they would view England/Wales/Scotland/N Ireland as all one country.

This argument has been tried before - unsuccessfully. The UK is viewed as one country.

It may not have been tried as regards places like the Falkland Islands which are overseas territories, but that's not going to apply to many people.
