Does anyone live in the northern beaches? If so, can you get ADSL2+? I'm moving up to Cairns from Brisbane in a few weeks, and was just wondering if I am going to be able to get decent speed broadband.

Any answers greatly appreciated

Not looking too good, looks like the Trinity and Clifton Beach exchanges will not cope with ADSL2+. Just Cairns CBD...

Rawnet were going to deliver ADSL2+ to Cairns but after months of delays and problems went bust about the turn of the year.
In the process a lot of work was done so even though not many are "active" most of the donkey work was probably done at the Telstra exchanges.
Last I heard Optus were going to do rollout Cairns but that was several months ago.
Not really sure where it's at now but you could try searching on Whirlpool.net.au.

We use a 1500 plan but you rarely get more than 800 from it.
There is so called superfast ADSL at 8196 but I understand you get nowhere near it and it's pricey in comparison.

Yeah, looks like Cairns CBD is about the only place to get ADSL2+ at the moment.
