ACS Assesment Computing Professional (not elsewhere classified)
Hi Guys
My head is about to explode, I wonder if any of you out there can help me out.
I have been in the IT industry for 15 years, in brief starting out as a junior support person, through to customer service manager, Technical Manager (NT, Novell, LANS, WANS etc) and now Storage Consultant "NAS/SAN" Working mainly in Reseller ships and of Late a Storage Manufacture.
I have the following Qualifications
BTECH First Diploma in Science
BTECH National Diploma in Computer Study’s
Microsoft MCP Windows NT Server 4
Citrix CCA
Compaq ASE
Procom NAS Specialist
Adaptec Certified Storage Professional
Also Nemours other courses and certificates in IT gained.
I have had a few examples of what people have done for the ACS and RPL but these are mainly programmers, and I can’t relate this to ACS Computing Professional (not elsewhere classified).
I have complied a 40 page extended CV/Profile on the job experience and project’s I have worked on since starting in the industry, but my agent has said that this is not good enough. They haven’t really given me any decent pointers on what I should be putting down, and the old classic give us some more money and we help.
I thinking about applying and going alone at this, by pass agent and save a few £1000's at the same time.
What I would like is to see an example of what you guys may have put for the ACS Assessment Computing Professional (not elsewhere classified) which sort of relates to the type my type of career, to give me some pointers on what they require.
Many thanks in advance

Thinking about changing career and becoming a welder or Pastry Chef

I'm going through the ACS / RPL form filling at the moment but my agent has proved very helpful. Basically I fill in a section at a time and he vets it and suggests what else needs to go in there. Perhaps you should think about changing agents !!!!

Are you sure you need to do RPL seeing as you have a BTEC in Computer Studies, or isn't the qualification at a high enough level?
Have you thoroughtly studied the ACS site before you decided RPL was what you had to do?

Jon,
I would dump your agent - he sounds like an idiot!!
We used George Lombard (http://www.austimmigration.com.au) and I did a section, he vetted it and then said when it was OK. He also provided me with an example.
At the very least your agent should be doing this for you!!

Just to back up the 'change your agent' views.... Allen collett at Gomatilda offered to consult on my ACS assesment for a lot less than a thousand quid. Like 50% of that...to help me fill in the ACS form & help by checking what I was submitting..
Your skills sound right to me - I cant see ACS not giving you RPL ,Dont worry too much about which job you pick - they will reclassify you if thy think you fit better in another one - and then it doesnt matter because you dont have to work in that job class... its only for immigration...
I am worried cos I spent some time as a salesman ( euch ) in the last 4 years and that this wont qualify me for ACS.. but i guess I'll find out... :-)
There is a site that does a check of skills in AUS vs Skills elsewhere... If you go to Vetassess website I think it links from there, or search this forum I believe it is something like the Skills Recognitioin Authority or something similar... Its definitely refrence on this forum .
I'd be surprised if your skills werent sufficient.
On my applicationI Put in ( i have a degree so didnt do RPL )
- CV Detailed wiht Job Roles going back forever.
- Signed & with their contact details - References from Employees for each
role
- A certificate from my employer(s) stating Time in Job, and Job Title.
- A sworn statement in front of Judge that my CV was true (because my company wont provide anyhting other than length in job & title ).
you can email them for advice -I did and they were great, they told me how to get around the CV issue with my employer etc. dont be afraid to email them before sending the application.
Agents are only really needed if you've got weird or difficult issues, or you're alergic to tons of papers (working in IT you must be ok with papers !) At the start it does look awfully daunting but once you crack on and break it apart it gets better. It did take me 4-6 weeks just to get all the stuff together! .

That agency is noosr - see cut & paste from another thread.... below...
------------------PASTE----------
If the diploma you are on about is the 2 year National Diploma then it appears to be equivelant to the AQF Advanced Diploma (as it states that its a two year course)..which would put you in category B which means 4 years experience.
Please dont take this as gospel as this is how I interpreted the stuff on the ACS site and the NOOSR information...personally I ended up putting all my hopes on my MCSE (and experience) for getting in.
Hopefully someone can be a little more helpful or at least you have a new lead to follow!
