Default Acreage Brisbane.

Hi everyone,

Can anyone advise which nice areas in and around Brisbane - not too far from the CBD still have 5 acre lots.

Thanks.

We looked at an area called Stanford (I think) when we visited there a few years ago that has what you are looking for. We thought it was a nice area, the only area of Brisbane we liked in fact. I think it's under 45 minutes to the CBD.

The place your probably thinking of is Samford.

There are 2.5 acre plots - but only about 8 left at the website below.

It is a nice area but it is in a valley out west and so gets seriously hot in summer. The primary school is huge because it services a large area. DMF lives there and is very helpful so you could try sending her a PM.

Anstead, Pullenvale and Brookfield are also acreage areas a bit closer to the city and they are spread across hillsides (Anstead also has lots and lots of trees ) so they catch the breezes a bit better. Anstead is the cheaper of the three but there is nothing here except nice acreage houses and trees so it depends what you're after, really. Nearby Bellbowrie has a supermarket etc. 6 minutes away. Pullenvale also has no facilities and less trees, but is a lot more expensive. Brookfield has a couple of shops and a showground, but I find it a bit sterile compared to the other two. They all have very good primary schools.

Anstead is less than 30 minutes to the CBD (19km) outside rush hour, but probably nearer to 50 minutes in rush hour. The other two are a little bit closer, but it depends how far off the main road you go.

Moggill Road reached capacity several years ago and is very busy in rush hour. There are a couple of road projects in the offing, but one of them was planned 20 years ago and will probably never happen. The other is 1 year into a 5 year feasibility study and will happen, but nobody knows where exactly or when.

There are a few acreage areas Bayside but I don't know much about them. You can also get cheap acreage further North at Burpengary (50 mins+ travel time outside rush hour) and further South at Logan but you get what you pay for.

You certainly do ... value for money without the pretentious snobby neighbours.

OP, don't discount Logan and the outskirts of Beaudesert Shire (and similar areas) on the basis on sweeping generalisations. The commute however may be a bit long for you.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend. I was referring more to Burpengary, 5 acre blocks for $80k must say something. Didn't mean to offend. There are good and not so good areas of Logan and Beaudesertshire (as there are most places), and this is reflected in the price. And I'm not pretentious or snobby.

There was a question on here a while ago asking if 1 acre was enough to ride trail bikes around on ... it does make you wonder if these people have an ounce of consideration in them.

Cheers,
Matt

These people drive in the State Forest round the back of us, so we don't hear them then. They just meet up next door and ride off to the forest. It doesn't bother us, really.

Their dog is more of a problem. They go out to work and leave him and he thinks our house is in his territory. He gets underneath and barks when we move about . It's quite common round here to just let your dog roam about. The crazy postlady will run one over sometime soon.

Jane
p.s. our neighbours are very nice really, they just have a stupid dog.

Ah yeh, that was another thing that surprised me about living in Oz (been here a year and a half now), the number of dogs and how noisy they are. They used to bother me but I've mostly tuned them out now.

It might be a security thing due to the size of the blocks and how relatively easy it would be to enter a property here. I guess a narky looking cat doesn't cut it to a seasoned hard-nut

Weve only had the acerage a couple of months but its very neighbour intense here too. Pity as acerage is are so hard to find in this location, were just minutes from surf beach but close to shops so grabbed it.

however, neighbour one loves to play tennis at 6 am, if its dark they simply put the flood lights on. Plus german shepherd who roams but is not friendly to dogs or kids.

neighbour 2 has 17 chickens and a rooster , first we met of her was her rather large matronly bosom protutruding throught the grevillia hedge announcing one of our dogs was in her chicken house, he had rounded them up and sent them back, she lets them out daily and honestly belives they should wander into our property, and that the dogs should understand this

neighbour 3 seems normal, like us quite a few kids/dogs/ pool etc so you certainly know they are there as they would us.

Ride ons and bikes go constantly really if its not one property its someone else,

Far less peaceful than we envisaged, no chance of bushfire tho, the neighbours all have full sized tennis courts and massive pools, not much left for trees, and yes it is incredibly snobby :scared: especially penelope and her giant cockerel
