Looking for some advice i was told i could possibly get a rebate in july on my tax. Im full time employed on a 457 visa since march my wage slip tax code is...
Tax Code: 1-No TFT. As i understand this means no tax free threshold. Can anyone elaborate on this please as yo if im entitled to a rebate my salary will be just over 18k by july

Everyone here has to complete a tax return. When you do, if you are entitled to anything back you will receive it. It is by the way a good idea to use an accountant and their fees are tax deductible next year.

Did you put yourself down as non resident? How much tax is being deducted now, based on your payslips?

As a resident you are entitled to the tax free threshold, so unless you are here for a really short period of time you should have indicated that you are tax resident. Don't confuse visa status with tax status.

If you have overpaid, then yes you will get a rebate at the end of the tax year. But you should not be aiming to get a rebate at end of each tax year, you should be aiming to get this sorted out so your tax is deducted properly in the first place during the year.

You should probably be taxed as a resident if you are living and working in Australia on a 457 visa.

Discuss with a tax agent when completing your 2014 tax return, and then revert to your employer with a view to the PAYG maybe being withheld on a resident basis.

In case of need: www.gmtax.com.au

Best regards.
