"But there are still only 35 houses for 350 people – a few new house frames dot the small town, but it's very cosy."

Teresa Hickling, 30:
“It’s something I can do – keep everyone busy – keep them up instead of sitting around doing nothing. There's a lot of people just sitting around and I'm sick of it."

Lots of mud for adobe - chuck in a few bags of cement, a few poles from the bush, a bit of elbow grease - hey, presto - lots of houses.

Tis true but......

Suppose we gave this advice to white australians, or immigrants, move to the bush and build a shack?

Thanks!

It's a whooolllle different world. And I've lived in it(when I was 8/9) (a former mission with 400 people(yep, probably only about 30 houses), and a small community, part of Nullagine)

I would have loved to move to the bush, mate. It was the original plan. I let the side down a bit by moving to the bits that sit on the end of Melbourne.

That'd sort 'em out. These days they can't even light a fire to spare their backsides from the chill.
