I read this thread and found the replies to it quite shocking really.
I've kept away from replying to kongs threads because sometimes he comes across as an arse but I will say this one thing:

if anyone else had told us about a programme to do with australia, there'd have been heaps of " cheers for reminding me...i'll set my vcr...." replies, instead just a few quippy remarks about souvenirs being made in china, which is not at all the point of the thread.

Not sticking up for king kong, just pointing out that others misfortunes shoulden't be so readily dismissed.

Hi Steandleigh

I catch your point with interest. My opinion is that I can see what Kong is saying but everything he posts is form the dark side of Oz.

I work with people with disabilities and can give you any amount of discrimination stories the people I work with face every day of the week. Don't matter where you are, discrimination is discrimination. People face it everywhere, whether it's here or Oz.

So... why should discrimination stories from Oz be so different from the UK's, they're all shocking.

What was Kongs point? Does he think people are only discriminated in Oz and nowhere else?

Kong has set himself up no matter what he writes, people are cheesed off with his negativity ( even though I find his rants very funny)

Come on Kong, what's your point, or what's your agenda?

Hi Walla,

kong certainly seems to devote an awful lot of time to ensuring that we all see the not so good stuff about australia, even stranger that although he's turned his back on the country, he still logs on here to orate his thoughts, maybe he thinks he's doing us all a favour.

As far as the discrimination topic goes, yes it does happen everywhere but i doubt that discrimination on such a scale would be tolerated in the uk, i could be wrong and shall watch the programme tomorrow evening. That said, one programme doesn't educate, it merely opens up an opportunity to learn more or to turn a blind eye.

Best wishes,

Thats it exactly, if you point out that Kongs thread is actually informative and a very real issue in Australia you are branded as sticking up for Kong!

I clicked on the top two threads this morning, one is having a moan about british weather, the second is about Aborigianls, now it dont take rocket science to work out which one is discussing Australia.

Isnt it about time people moving out here faced facts that Australia has some very nasty sides to it, not every Australian is living in the much coveted upper class suburbs.

Why the hell shouldn't someone bring up shocking facts like Black people in Australia live 20 years shorter than whites. Well there you go that should be me banned or the thread closed.

To all the above

There was a tread about this program afew months back - turned into a right slagging match(do a search - redfern).

O/T:Qoute from a novel by Thomas Keneally "there was always ferocity in the air at Redfern".

Watch this program - should be interesting

I think its a case of people seeing kongs name on top of the thread and seeing red after his previous attempts,

personally i don't give a baboons red arse if anyone thinks im sticking up for him, its the threads subject and its content which interest me far more.

Yes, Kongs posts are very negative but he is not offensive and is just having a bit of a laugh really.
Any program about Aus is always worth watching, I am especially interested in the aboriginals, learn a bit more about them as they generally get a bad press.
Hopefully the BBC will give a balanced view.
So if he hadnt brought the subject up I'd have probably missed the program, so thx Kong

Whether or not the programme is subjective remains to be seen, afterall nothing makes good telly unless its controversial.

Ratings rule and all that.
