ABN and Bank Account
Hi all. I'm coming back to Perth on July 17th on a second year WHV. Am I able to apply for my TFN before I arrive so I can start work asap, or do I have to get to Australia first and then apply......and do I apply for my old abn or do I apply for a new one? It was 2008-09 when I was there for a year last time. Same question for the Bank Account also.
Much appreciated

ABN? Do you definitely need one and not just a TFN?
You can organise a bank account bbefore you get here, or if you didn't close the old one contact the bank and ask for the details again.
I don't know anything about applying for ABNs.

Sorry.....my mistake
Yes i meant TFN. Any idea's?
Thanks for the bank details, last time I was with Westpac, think I will go with them again. I closed down the account last time so will have to make a new one. Hopefully won't be closing this one down though if I can get sponsorship

So a brand new migrant cannot get a TFN until they are in the country, doesn't mean they cannot work though. I started work before having mine.
In your case however, you need to retreive the old one, attached provides some guidance on how to do that.

Re: ABN and Bank Account
I didn't pay any emergency tax, had the TFN by payroll day. If the payroll day had fallen ealier then I would not have been there long enough to have earned that much anyway. So it no big deal really, but hopefully you can call the numer on monday and retrieve your old one so will be no issue at all.
