7 weeks in and loving it
Well we've been here 7 weeks and lucky for us things have just fallen into place.
First priority was getting kids into a good school. Did that 1st week - the only problem was a week later it was the school hols which meant they had a couple of weeks trailing around with us getting everything else sorted. They are now settled into the school with no major problems (other than daughter missing friends from UK) She has made friends but still longs for mates back there. Sure this wil ease with time. Son (17) sorted and off doing all sorts with the friends he has made - parties & surfing every weekend with a really good bunch of kids.
Got ourselves a nice 4 x 4 (Government auctions a great place to bag a bargain)
Hubby secured casual work in the second week - lucky bugger was invited on a Singapore Cruise (paid for) second week in. He goes beginning of December, returns and then starts new job which he has just found out today he was successful for - a Government Department (Car included) which means we don't have to worry about getting a second car - and the 4 x 4 is now mine (well at least weekdays !!!!) Celebrating over the weekend, a party with friends tomorrow night which means and off to beach Sunday to have fun with jet skis. We just love it!!
I started a new job this week and I'm loving it. Brilliant company with excellent conditions and perks and very flexible re hours etc. Back in the land of the living - I only say that as I am not used to not working - don't get anything from the lady of leisure bit - get too bored and am much happier when I am working. The company has a brilliant social side- lots of nights out (especially Friday's after work ) and the next big event is the summer ball in a couple of weeks (huge event at the Casino in Perth) followed a couple of week later by a huge Christmas bash - suits me fine!!!
We viewed a house the second week we were here, loved it, put in offer which was accepted and heh ho we settle on Thursday - can't wait. Oh and furniture is just awaiting clearance at customs which should tie in nicely with move. (we have had the luxury of a relatives house since getting here) Invites already sent for house warming party!!!
Basically we are sorted - and all in 7 weeks - not bad!!!
So for all of those heading to Perth in the next couple of months be reassured if you put in the groundwork you'll be sorted. Also an announcment by Government today that unemployment here is at a 20 year low so there are definately opportunites. Good luck to anyone coming out here.

I hope everything goes as well as it has for you when we get out there.
May I ask where the auctions for the car were held?

Hi Dawn,
Great to hear yet another positive story of new life in Perth. Just makes me itchy to get over there. And I too would love to know about those Government car auctions???? Spill the beans please!
What part of Perth are you settling in?

Auction days are Wednesday and Saturday mornings, if you like a motor you can buy before it goes in the auction on fixed price. The auctions are open every day for viewing, I'll never buy from a garage again!!
You get some real bargains and all the govvie cars are well under average mileage and serviced regularly, happy hunting!!
