What gets me about this program is that they were on a flight from Sydney to LA, yet apart from 1 Aussie, 1 Brit & 2 Koreans, they are all yanks. What are the chances of that?. Anyway my list:

1. Pubs
2. Sky TV
3. The Channel Tunnel
4. Belgium
5. The Oktoberfest, Munich (I'm not going this year either )

Default Re: 5 things you would miss about the UK!

In no particular order, off the top of my head:
- Young's Special bitter (in a straight pint glass - none of that stubby/middy nonsense)
- Cheap sports cars (and fewer anal traffic police)
- My current salary
- London specialist shops
- Underground system that covers most of the city

I think the OP should have simultaneously started another thread entitled "5 things you would NOT miss about the UK!". As a starter, here's mine:
- Identikit city centres
- New Labour lies and incompetence
- Freezing sleet
- Immigration entirely out of control
- Shabby treatment of the elderly

I think I'll miss

1 Knowing what it's okay to dig up and discard as weeds when I'm gardening
2 Familiar sounds and smells when I'm walking
3 Country lanes with old villages
4 Snow
5 Cheap flights to Europe

What I really miss when I get there will probably be totally different!

4. My Sense of Self (Memories and History)

5. Being able to answer all the questions on a tv quiz show

gd
Mine are:

Knowing my way around (can direct people in UK to most places -approximately!)
The sense of history
Familiar accents (hoping not to lose mine by some kind of "osmosis")
Great cheese - both British & Continental
Knowing that whatever stings or bites me I won't die!
Radio 4 (I know it's on the web but will I have broadband?)

My things I WON'T miss:

Immigration (ironical eh?)
Traffic including parking my car outside our house (no drive here)
Summer (!) weather
Having so-called "celebrities" rammed down my throat via press and TV
Litter
Having neighbours too close so I have to listen to their noise

God I sound like a curmudgeonly old bugger..................

Don't know yet but when I'm there and miss things will be sure to let you know

Just one ickle wickle query - to everyone who says (in various threads) that they miss or will miss cheap travel to Europe - do you actually regularly travel to the continent for weekends with Easyjet etc or is it something you think is great but never actually do it Not getting at anyone, it's just it's not something I think about because it never seems to end up cheap, and I think I have done it once
