5 Most Irritating Aussie Speech Traits

With apologies to the Aussie born people that post on this site and I'm sure you can reciprocate about us Poms, I want to give you some of the things that irritate me most about Aussie people, in no particular order.

1. I have a colleague who says "no worries" on average about 6-10 times every time he is on the phone
2. All my colleague's say "good on yer" before they put the phone down on each call
3. From shop assistants the US style "Have a nice day" is creeping in
4. The withering realisation "oohh okay" is used all too often
5. Instead of thanking you the Aussies like to just say "cool"

Glad to get that off my chest. By the way, I still like the Aussies.

That's beautiful/ beautiful!
I keep adding hey? to the end of my sentences, must have picked it up from somewhere and it is really annoying me.
Saying stuff wrong e.g. gar-rage/per-go-la etc. :D

My pet hate is making verbs out of any old word.

1) Suicided
2) farewelled
3) Treed
(- these three always seem to appear on the news...and I am shouting at the newspresenter ' committed suicide' 'bade farewell' 'tree-lined" like a mad woman)
4) the pronounication of the word debut (day-booo)
5) darl. (but generally sounds like 'doll')

I feel so much better now! :D

The way, mainly, women say 'nooy' for 'no'.

Starting sentences with "Aw look..." or "Listen...".

Listen, I've found myself doing it with increasing regularity.

To balance this up we should have Top 5 British traits that piss us off.

You mean like finishing the sentence with "yeh"! rather than a full stop?

So that's where the QLD "eh" comes from, its just been abreviated here! :D

I bought some furniture from a retailer and the shop assistant said 'absolutely no problem' to every answer we gave her HOW IRRITATING! But listen to this. I rang the shop several days later to find out when delivery was and this same girl answered, unfortunately we got cut off! So, I rang the number again and got someone else who said the same thing! I explained that I had been cut off and she asked who it was I had spoken to before so I gave her a physical description and she was amazed that I could give this description and wondered how I could know what the other girl looked like down the phone! I had to tell her in the end that I had been served by this girl but it was funny.

Ok....some British speech traits that bugged me when in the UK!!

1. "Alright?" as a greeting!! When I first got there and people would say that I would be like "Yes thanks!!" with the most puzzled look!!

2. "We was driving down the road....." Need I say more???

3. Fan-dabby-dozey.......WTF?????? :D

4. "When one wants something, one just asks!" Does one???

5. "The UK has so much more Culture than anywhere else!!"...... ;) (just had to throw that one in)
