495 visa - are we entitled to Medicare?
Hi,
We are entering Adelaide on a 495 (state sponsored) visa and I was wondering if anyone knows if we are entitled to Medicare Cover?
Thanks, Karen

Longer answer.
- You may be entitled to (limited scope) reciprocal medicare depending on country of former residence; and
- Once you apply for permanent residence, you will be eligible for full medicare.
If you get a letter from Medicare confirming non-eligibility, you don't have to pay the (tax) Medicare levy.

We do have visitors cover through Medibank Private and we have used that alot for OH knee ops (had two since being here), and other matters that have arisen during our stay.
Oh and for what it's worth I have had a full health check, bloods the whole lot on medicare because the doctor said that because I am 40 I should have these just to make sure!
