Re: 457 visa and medicare
I've just got my 457, and used IMAN insurance - base level $163 per month.
Will probably cancel when we get there for medicare and/or discounted company insurance.
They have a tickbox for 'don't know the start date yet' - you can advise them or change it later.
And you don't need to do it straight away - our agent told me when the visa was ready, and then I got the insurance to satisfy.
Note to the OP - don't wish to panic you, but i was quoted 6-8 weeks too, and it came thru in just over 2 !!
We leave next week.....

Go to your nearest medicare centre with the relevant paperwork. e.g proof of address, passport, and visa approval and ask to get a medicare card.
They will get you to fill in a form and you'll get the medicare card withing 7 days.
The process is quite simple.

If thats the case they will resolve all that for you. Some companies also provide Health Cover for you, in fact they used to HAVE TO but that went about 2 years ago.
