457 to PR
 

Hi Guys,

I mentioned something to my boss at my housewarming on Friday night. We were having a laugh and a joke and I had shown him around my apartment I am renting...I am so in love with it I said I would love to buy, but he would have to sponsor my PR as I wasnt going to buy on a 457.

He said he would have no prob with that but said he thought that after me only being here 7 weeks, that that was too short a time from an immigration point of view (not his). If he could sponsor me for a PR then absolutely he would but he wasnt sure if I had to be here a set amount of time for the company to do so.

Does anyone know anything about sponsored PR's and whether you have to be here a certain period first?

It depends on whether or not you have an occupation that is on the ENSOL and (if so) whether you have a skills assessment classification from the relevant assessing body - have a read here:

Noticed if my salary is over 165k then I dont have to wait the year working for them......so just mailed my boss the link and told him he can give me a pay rise if he likes....one can only try ;)

Perth and surrounds are ENS only but if you are farther afield in any of these postal areas you can qualify for RSMS = no waiting time necessary.........

I am a software consultant, so know my skills are on the required list. However it reads for employer sponsorship, I have to be with them 2 years, or a year in certain circumstances before they can sponsor me.

I live in 6005 and have no intention of changing that....so will have to wait or get them to increase my salary a bit.

Have another read of the immi webpage I have referred to ... if your occupation is on the ENSOL and you have three years experience in that occupation you satisfy that bullet pointed requirement which means an ENS application is likely to be possible ...

if your job is on the skilled list apply for skilled independent.

We came out on a 457 with the company applying for an 856 (company sponsored) visa as soon as the 457 was granted. It took about 9 months and hubby had to have his skills checked but we are now on PR.

My company have been told they can sponsor me. they bought me over on a 457 as it was quicker. They have mentioned something about an RSMS (whatever that is.

It's a Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme sub class 857 visa.

Thanks for that. Looks good. Only got to wait formy appraisal on 2nd November but have saved it on the computer at work ready. Fingers crossed.
