Question 457 - Independant Executive Long Stay Business Visa & School Fees

Hi all,

Can anyone please tell me:

What is the situation with primary school fees in State schools when you are on a 457 4 year temp visa? Do you have to pay?

Regards,

Cinderella

I seem to remember someone posting something about this a few days ago.

I can't remember, but I'm fairly sure that you have to pay for them to go to school.

It depends on the State/Territory you are in.

In NSW the answer is yes - I think it's about A$4.5k per child per
year, a little more if they are teenagers.

I don't think all the other states have this policy - you would have
to check with the education department of the State/Territory you plan
to settle in.

Children of permanent residents, of course, don't pay any more than
Australians.

I am in Queensland on a four year 457 visa and we do not have to pay any fees to send our children to State school. I sent an e-mail to Education Queensland and they replied really promptly. The school also had to check of course but came up with the same answer. This was only three weeks ago, my children start tomorrow.

Thanks alot Karen. That is good news, as we want to go to QLD.

We still need to work out the pro's and con's of the 457 visa and doing the full Business Owner PR.

Thanks again,

Cinderella

Hi,

We are moving to Melbourne on a Temporary Residency Visa and are wondering
the same.
Does anyone know weather we will have to pay any School fees for primary
education in Victoria.

TIA
Mat.
