Does anyone know: If one person is sponsored on a 457 together with their partner, can the partner also work in Australia?

Yes, but some employers (especially for better jobs) won't hire someone on temporary status.
If you have a four year visa then very few companies would expect you to still be working for them after that length of time anyway. |
Re: 457 contract
NSW is going to cost you $4500 per child up front so be sure to budget for that.

Plus the administration charge. On the positive side, if you get a permanent residence visa part way through the year the fees are refunded on a pro rata basis. |

Or $5500 if the child will be in Year 11 or Year 12.

LOL and be grateful you arent going to ACT where the fees are double that!
Its typical, before we came out to Australia, OH had interviews with two divisions of the same company - one based in Sydney, one based in Brisbane. If we'd gone with the Sydney one, they would have paid the kids' school fees. We ended up in Brisbane, so the situation didn't arise. OH then changes job and we move to Sydney... are the new company interested in paying the fees? Nah. Thank God we only have one child to pay for now! (And they're sponsoring us for PR, so we must be thankful for that :) ) |

Hi,
It is now looking like we will be working in Australia on a 457 (still waiting for the MD to come back from his hols). While my husband is negotiating his contract we could do with some ideas of anything we might need to include in that. We have 2 boys aged 5 and 10 and I am currently recovering from a fractured spine so am concerned about medical cover. Any ideas will be greaty appreciated. Sonia |
Re: 457 contract
did you qualify for tax credits while you were in the UK though because we don't get anything here that is worth more than a take away sandwich a month? It never occured to me to move to another country and expect them to pay to keep me there!!
