40 ft container - shipping costs
Hi all
Thought I would start a new thread regarding costs for a sole use 40ft container as not many people seem to use them - but we definitely will. We have a number of quotes currently being prepared with a few more to come, so as they do I'll add them here for up to date info.
This is for door to door, packing and unpacking, from Warwickshire to Melbourne.
Insurance is not included.
John Mason
£7,000 (wah wah wee wah!). Thought this was expensive but it's the first one so we shall see. Does NOT include local duties, inspection and taxes.
More to follow...

Great idea for a thread. We are going through the same process.
PSS - £6700 door to door, insurance not included. Quote came today - we've got John masons and Dorree Bonner quoting too. The quote for a 20 footer for the same journey was £3400.

We have a 40ft container from door to door Southampton to Brisbane going out on around 6th Oct £4750 (I knocked them down from £5150) no insurance (£31000+ insurance with Letton Percival 1.6% approx of value works out around £550). Hope this helps.

Did any of you guys get the option to ask for an inside container or out? The price should shift dramatically either side depending on your choice.
An outside container, meaning visible from the sight of the ship and is at greater risk should be much cheaper than one in the middle or inside the hull. Find this info out if you havnt already. Some companies dont offer or mention it, but alot have it, but may not make you aware.

Should mention the others we are getting to quote are PSS, Anglo-Pacific and Dorree Bonner.
I'm going to try some local firms as well I think. Let's see what happens...

We're trying to cut down to a 20 footer - we are sending lots of our furniture to auction as it is antique and getting rid of the rubbish and seeing what is left.

Re: 40 ft container - shipping costs
We aren't needing a 40ft container, but for any peeps from Lancashire who do... we had a quote from a local company called Hambletons from Ramsbottom. They came in around £3200 for sole use of a 40 ft (Near Blackburn to Melbourne, packing and unpacking), they don't do shared containers. I thought this was a really good price.

Next one in. Doree Bonner - £6984. Very close.
Interesting - one question, I assume we all have to pay VAT on these?

Re: 40 ft container - shipping costs
PSS just came today. One of the first thing he said was 'you'll get all this in a standard 40ft container' - we only do overseas shipping, so other agents that do everything work on a margin of error far more than ours'. We shall see...
Now getting two other unknown companies to quote as well, one local to us. Ooohhh, the excitement!

We paid £6,100 for a 40ft (excluding AQIS fees this end) with Doree Bonner last year and can readily recommend them. Just had a single cheap wine glass broken.
Price shouldn't be the only aspect that comes into the equation when it comes to packing up everything you own.
