Default 4 bed house - what size container for shipping?

Hi

We have a 4 bed house and although not taking everything including the kitchen sink do have lounge, dining room, 3 beds and study plus the rest to box up and ship. Anyone any idea what size container likely to need, can recomend a good company and an idea of cost. Also thinking of shipping stuff out before we go so is there when we need it as will be looking to rent for 1st few months and having looked on real estate sites most if not all rents are unfurnished. Can anyone help.

Thanks

Ali

Your best bet is to get a quote from one of the companies who do removals, as everyone is different. Your probably looking at part 40 foot container for a 4 bed house, but it depends on how much you are taking.

We rented unfurnished accom, but bought some things to be going on with while we were waiting for our stuff to come, i.e bed (as we only had one already) and fridge (as we left ours behind) and a couple of bucket seats.

Hope this helps

We have (or had in a months time) a 4 bed house and we went what I thought was minimalistic a year ago.

We still managed to sell £800.00 worth on ebay and for a reefer container it's gonna cost us £3200.00 in july with anglo pacific (quote was 6 weeks ago - apparently they are busy and can charge accordingly this time of year as it's the height of the season!)

This is plus insurance (£200.00) + aus customs

Hope this helps

Word of Notice - Never Use a Reefer Container for Shipping out your effects, They are used for Shipping Food Stuffs (Mainley Frozen) across the Globe - They nearly always carry an odur, and are most certainly smaller in Cubic Capacity than a 40' General Purpose Container.

You can always use a 40' High Cube Container at the Same Rate as a 40' GP.

Take no Notice of "They are busy at this time of year" Rates for Shipping effects are Uniformed throughout the year, and you shouldn't pay any different during the 4 seasons !!!

Feel Free to contact me for any further advice.

Luck of the draw I'd say....?

Hi!

I work for a UK based removal company and would have to disagree there.

Although the actual port to port shipping costs of a container dont tend to vary based on season (they do fluctuate though due to fuel charges etc) you are more than likely to find that the main change based on season is that removals costs will be higher in the summer than in winter periods.

This is mostly due to the fact that more people tend to move house in the summer, therefore during the winter many removal companies offer a discount in order to book work and remain competitive, as there are more removal companies than people wanting to move. In the summer demand increases and companies are able to stop offering discounts. This isnt them ripping you off, but if they didnt many of them would go out of business!

A 20ft container (approx 1050 cubic feet) would fit the contents of an average 3 bedroom house, so I would estimate you might need a 40ft container, depending on how much you are cutting down? Whereabouts are you moving from / to Ali?

Carmele,

It is up to the Individual to Choose what theyre Requirements are, As Industry Professionals we can Only advise you, I would summise That you Told Craig that you had been quoted a Reefer with Anglo, and he said Migrates Price would be Higher - Migrate Do not offer to ship out effects in a Reefer Container.

In Terms of accessability, Craig meant that a 40' Container with Vehicle May not be suitable to gain access, however a Normal Removals Van would have no problem.

That is the Normal way of Moving your goods - Removal Van from House and then Rework into a Shipping Container.

Again it is about personal choice - Some people wish to Self Pack a container, which would mean Container being positionaed at your premises.

Please do not heitate to contact me should you need any further advise.

Hi Kirsty

We are moving from Poole Dorset to the Gold Coast - one bit of beach for another. We have to go into rented here though first as our house is sold and the one we are looking to rent is only a 3 bed so looks like will have to do a bit of downsizing anyway. How long for everything to be sorted and shipped as we are hopoing to be over by end of Dec and not sure when we should start the shipping process.
Thanks

Ali

Ali.

Depending on when you move out and consolidate your goods, the lead time to shipment can vary.

The Actual Transit Time Port UK to Brisbane is 34 Days - I would allow 1 week befoe, and 1 week after arrival also.

Hope this is Of Help.

We normally advise our customers to expect approximately 6 weeks door to door depending on sailing schedules.

In terms of price we would expect to offer a full door-to-door service for a 20ft container at between £3600-£4400 or a 40ft container for between £5800 - £6500. With any removal company you would have a free no obilgation survey first to work out the volume of your goodsand discuss your requirements, based upon which a quotation would be given to you with a more accurate price.

You will want to start the process a fair while before this though in order to have surveys from removal companies, decide what to take / not to take and decide who to move with.

Hope this helps!

What you mean the house has to stay, I thought one of the big things in Oz and NZ was putting your house on the back of a low loader and taking it with you!! Damn might need a re think

We managed to fit the contents of a 4 bed plus study into a 20ft container thanks to the miracles of re-flat packing furniture.

All praise the Allan key
