Western Australian Skilled Migration Strategy
The State Government’s first workforce development priority is to train and prepare Western Australians for the workforce. This is the fundamental tenet of Skilling WA which provides the framework for building, attracting and retaining a skilled workforce for Western Australia.
However, research conducted for Skilling WA showed that by 2017 Western Australia would potentially need an additional 420,000 new workers. The research also indicated that at the current rate of population growth not all of these workers would be able to be provided locally.
To address this, skilled migration will be a necessary strategy.
The Western Australian skilled migration strategy, launched on Wednesday 23 March 2011, aims to supplement the Western Australian workforce with skilled migrants to fill those jobs unable to be filled from the local workforce.
The Department invites feedback from all interested stakeholders. Feedback can be provided to: [email protected]

I take these kind of reports very skeptically.
There is always a call for more skilled workers, then they immigrate or graduate from Uni here in Australia and then all of a sudden there are no jobs to be found.
Unless its some low skilled cleaning job.

i heard peter collier talk on this yesterday. a lot of the jobs where in low paid areas to cover the loss to the mines. there have been protests over here from manufacturing industries abt not enough work coming to them even though we keep getting told theres not enough workers.

Ditto. Fully agree with above. More a case of what will happen with existing work force, when for example,China falters.
WA has so many eggs in one basket that re adjustment to a slower paced developing China would be painful.
Besides wonder where they expect to house such a huge increase of population. Perth has nowhere near the inferstructure to cope.
Immigration Dept drumming up more business again?
