Question 20 ft container???

Just wanted people's experience of moving belongings over to Oz.

Would like to hear from those who used a 20 ft, sole use shipping container, and wondered how much you managed to fit in?

...and roughly how much it cost?

We used a 20ft from Dubai to Canada. It fits about....the contents of a two bed flat, if that's any help. The cost was around 2500 GBP.

We used a 20 foot reefer (refridgerated unit inside, makes it slightly smaller) from Herts to Brissie. Got all the contents of a 3 bedroomed semi minus fridge, oven etc but including contents of three decent sized sheds (large tool boxes, compressor, garden stuff, four bikes etc)

Cost £3,074. John Mason's brilliant. Nothing damaged or broken, everything there.

This may be a silly question, but what was the purpose of it having a refrigerated unit inside?

Hi there I posted this a few weeks back, might help???

This might be of use to someone starting out..... latest shipping quotes to Perth.
Quote is for a door to door service with pick-up in Peterborough (UK) and delivery to any address 30 km's from freemantle and is for a 20ft sole use container (exept John Mason's) and includes packing etc.

F+N = £3,125.00
PSS = £3,554.00 (includes 10% GST)
John Mason (Shared container) £3,273.00
AGS = £4,295.00
Atlantic = £3,474.00
Abels = £3,759.00
Anglo Pacific = £3,896.00

Also found this.........

Recent quotes for a 20ft container from Bristol - Melbourne:

Robinsons - £3,592
Doree Bonner - £3,612 (but sent through a 10% discount - so the cheapest)
Bishops Move - £4,260
John Mason - £3,956

I have just sorted insurance (today) through Letton Percival, which is 1.5% of the total value.

regards

Neil.

They don't use it for this sort of freight but it makes the inside slightly smaller so if your "stuff" won't fill a normal 20 footer, and you don't want to share a container (it takes longer to get there) it's ideal. It's just the shippers way of using up all containers. You can also be more certain (bad english) that there will not be any holes or gaps in the container so your stuff is slightly less likely to get any mould etc.

Great, thanks for that. It's nice to know how much it is to Perth, as we are going there

annqldau is an unknown quantity at this point

Ang,

I know it's Brisbane but I would think your costs may be slightly less for Perth, but we paid Pickfords 3700 GBP for a full pack/unpack door-to-door service. All turned up on time, and only 2 very minor breakages. We used a 20' FCL (full container load) service. We didn't insure it as reckoned if we had a couple of minor things didn't work we would just re-purchase over here.

We used a company called Atlantis who shipped us from Birmingham to Brisbane for £3400. It was a 20ft sole use container and got here within 7 weeks. We brought virtually everything ( from a 2 bed house and garden and work tools ) and everything was ok apart from a broken microwave, which was only £50 from asda. It was a door to door service.
