2 Things
One is my washing machine.
Hotpoint frontloader. Works okay.
The second is our computer. Not bril once, again works okay.
Bit on the old side.
Do we take them or leave them?

you might be able to sell your washing machine for£40 in the paper but you wont be able to buy a new one is Australia for £40!
your container is a set price on size so if it fits take it.
Top loader washing machines are not as good as front loaders anyway (in my opinion)

hiya sandra - depends really - how attached to your washing machine are you?
seriously, are you having a container to yourself, if so then use up the space, if not, then lifes too short to worry about washers. I've read the hot debate on here about top loaders vs front loaders and how top l's don't wash your clothes so well, but we used them out there and had no probs at all.
sell it and get a new 'un out there.

IMO - You might find that once you get there all the little purchases slowly add up to big money...and then add another $800 or more on a washing machine.....
best of luck

If your current one lasts, take it. Otherwise see if you can get a new one *before* you move.

Hi ya leigh,
We are not having a container. We are only taking `bits`.
Mick went through a phase when he thought he was living in the 20`s and all our furniture reflects it, so I will be glad to get rid of the crap.
Dont get me wrong, it is all very nice (well he thinks so) but I am fed up with mahogany furniture and bureaus and chesterfields etc.
So we have flogged the lot!!!
By the way, anyone after a 5 piece bedroom suite. Original 1920, sprung bed, the whole lot in polished walnut!!!!!!

Hi Sandra,
Bring your front-loader!!! That from someone sending her clothes back for a second top-loading pummelling again cos they are all still dirty, again!
As for the computer, yes bring it if it still works. It'll be better than having no computer at all. When you get here you will find there are more pressing things you have to organise, so if you don't have to shop for stuff like that it'll take off some of the pressure.

Sandra, there was a thread that went off on tangent & ended up talking about front loaders the other day. If you are not bringing a container (where you pay for x amount of space & can stick as much in as you want) then it will probably cost a heap to ship a washing machine.
If you want to buy all new stuff anyway & have the money, why bother? Despite what alot of people say on here, you can get front loaders here & they are a similar price or only slighly more expensive now than the equivilent toploaders. Expect around $800 for a 7kg front loader.
I have had top loaders all my life until the last 3 or 4 years, personally I have never had all the problems like the clothes still being dirty & powder streaks & rips that everyone complains about. But I changed to a front loader & am very happy with it .
As for the computer, once again, weight up how much it will cost you to ship it & how long its likely to last. You can buy a new system here with a 2.6 gig celeron & all the bits & pieces including monitor for under $900.
It depends on whether you have the money & want new or not. Pollys point of not having to waste time going & buying a new puter when you can have one when you first get here is a good one, but it really depends on how long it will take to ship it out as well. If its not going to be here for 6 weeks+ after you get here anyway, I dont think thats going to make a difference.
