I was lucky to have set up a job from the UK as I'm a stenographer. My husband is a welder however and is finding it much harder than anticipated to get work. Everyone says 'Oh he'll get a job easily but it ain't happening yet!! As people have often stated here as far as trades go getting overseas experience recognised isn't so straightforward!

We are down in Bunbury, all the talk about skills shortages makes me laugh, the problem is wage shortage.
The companies are using the "skills shortage" mantra to bring in temp visa people on unlivable wages. We have 6 Malaysians starting in the new year (2 welders because we can't get anyone) on $45k a year. They are very skilled and competent but are prepared to do anything for a visa. You can't live on that wage, aka the skills shortage.
