Default 1st steps to bring a cat over to OZ?

We hope to move to OZ at the end of the year and would like to bring our cat over with us, can anyone tell me how to go about it all please? He's due to have his yearly injection this month, is it ok to take him along to our normal vet's to have it done or will it need to be done at another vets when he has his check over to see if he's healthy to fly etc?

Can anyone also recommend any good companies they have used to bring there cat over to OZ?

Ok

First steps is to make sure its microchipped, it then needs loads of bloodtests which the vet can do, to be honest the best thing would be to contact airpets, they have a website

http://www.airpets.com/

If you ring them they will send out a quote to you as well, if your on the mainland UK they will pick the cat up as well

When we brought our two cats over they were brilliant, everything went without a hitch, they will even organise the quarentine for you

Hope this helps

Cats do not need blood tests ... they have to be microchipped and up to date with vaccinations.

Yep, airpets will sort everything out. Get an online quote and they give you a breakdown of everything!

Remember you will need both an export licence from the UK and an import licence from Oz. You can't book quarantine without an import licence.

Also check the waiting lists for quarantine, we came over a year ago and our cats followed 2 months later because Byford (WA) was booked well in advance. If you're using Byford, the staff there are just brilliant.

Hi Ozzy

Whoever you choose to transport your pet will sort out the permit.
If you use the search option there is loads of info all about taking pets and recommendations of companies to use. We used Golden Arrow and they were great.

Yep PP is right, you can do it yourself but I think it's yet another form filling exercise that if you're emmigrating you could probably do without! Whoever you book with will organise all the paperwork, permits and book space in quarantine for your cat.
