Default 1st Electricity Bill.

Hi,

(This maybe helpfull for anyone working out household bills when they arrive )

We just recieved our 1st electricity bill this morning for 3months usage it was $407. already paid a security deposit of $80 when we moved in which is just a standard charge.

Is this about average? for a family of five that is,bearing in mind we have air con-kitchen & our bedroom,we had it on constantly at the begining, now dont have it on much at all so i expect our next bill to be a bit lighter

Yep, sounds about right. Our highest one ever was $545 last winter when the kids kept leaving the heater on all day when they went to school :scared: . Uusally our bills are about $400.

My last 4 bills have been:
$291.20
$312.30
$301.70
$325.30
But only a family of 3, and only 1 bedroom was air conditioned at that time.

Thats not much less than mine and I have a 22 bedroom hostel. I do between 3 and 20 loads of waching a day, (dont use a dryer) but I dont have Aircon, the cooking area is gas so and I think the water is heated by gas so leccy is used for lights, 3 computers, 3 washing machines, 22 stand alone fans 2 tv's, 3 ceiling fans in kitchen and dining hall and the usual microwaves etc.

Our last one was $549 for 80 days

We just got our 3 month bill for $581.30 (Tariff 31 for water, the rest on 11).
Family of 5, only 2 small ac units in bedrooms hardly used.
Reckon mine sounds too much personally!

Your next 3 months may be the same as you will be heating rather than cooling. Do you have a Pool? That adds up a bit when the filter is running 8 hrs a day.

Our bill is $130, but coz of the mild summer the aircon has only been on occasionally. This is for a 2 bed villa with no pool. Going on last winter for heating the bill was 170 per quarter

Ours is on average in the very high $200's , $280, 90 something like that. Maybe creeps into the odd low $300's over the hotter periods, and cooler periods. Just the two of us and a large house, airconned.

no pool , we have gas stove top - so it's not that, electric cooker - but that does not get much use , so it can not be that , no tumble dryer etc etc

I know what it is with us - it's our aircon/heater . I know this example I'm going to give you is a few years ago now , but when we did not have a main aircon in one home, around about 4 maybe 5 years ago now, our bill without fail would be around $140 maybe it would shoot up a tiny bit using a fan heater in the winter nights to around $160, 170 and just one window aircon in thte summer for the bedroom. I never had a high bill until we had main aircon

Next bill should be cheaper - no aircon needed in the nights at this moment in time , and the unit's heater is not needed yet during April or may . But once winter comes it will shoot up again.

your bill sounds high 400 and something, I know yours is family of five - but you still turn on the oven whether it is for one or five. It's your aircons most prob - excessive use

I presume you had central heating in Scotland?

I've not long put the fans away and expect in a month or so to be getting the oil filled radiators out instead. Trust me, when it starts to get below 10c overnight you will feel cold, never mind when it is down to 4c or less. I've even found ice on the top of my bin one morning.

My first bill, living on my own (Queen song comes to mind) was 100 bucks. But that might have been not the full quarter...

Now our last was 240 which I think is high as there is just the two of us, and we have NO AC at all; but I think the pool pump is most of that. We have a new fridge, even the bar fridge might be knocking them out. We are trying to be more efficient. The jury is still out.

I actually think electric is more expensive over here than the UK. Maybe Powergen were cheaper I dunno, but I guess the usage of aircon knocks it up.
