Default 1st Class Machinist Info

Hi There
Just wanted to ask - Is there alot of work for 1st Class Machinist / Toolmakers in Perth? When we have gone on Seek / Google sites, it always brings up jobs in Sydney and Melbourne. (Really would love my hubby to work in Perth as I used to live there) we eventually would like to move back someday, any info would be much appreciated.

Thank you

My husband is a machinist as well, and we are leaving for Perth in Aug. He has sent out his cv and has 4 interviews lined up so far. He has been told that the machining industry is very bouyant right now and there are many jobs available.

Hello Jod

I don't think you should be too worried. In yesterdays West Australian (Perths main paper, Saturdays the main jobs day) I counted 15 machinests positions advertised.

He should pick up work the first week at the moment.

Thank you to everybody that replied...much appreciated
Good to know there is some jobs there but the house market seems scary at the moment Hopefully by the time we come over things have calmed down a bit otherwise I don't know how we and many others will be able to afford a mortgage!

Try the govt job site,Jobsearch, they give jobs for all of Oz.I would guess $24-26 per hour.A company i did some NDT for paid their guys around $100,000 a yr in 2000 but that was for 7x 12hr night shifts, put a cut on on sunday night and they went round the clock until friday morning, boring on day shift but the night shift guys all had portable TV,s.Some of the big mining equipment takes a while to re-surface with submerged arc and then the machinists go for it once it has cooled.Try a company called Camco in canning vale,I think they are usually after m/c jockeys.Good luck.

Just tried the Jobsearch site to look for stuff for myself but it came up saying that the site could not be displayed. Is this the downside to our taxcuts?

Interesting post.
We're off to the sunshine coast hopefully around April/may next year all being well.I'm also a machinist ( cnc 5 axis/manual also ) and would be interested to hear what others are finding out ref work conditions and availability. We do have have friends out on the sunshine coast who are all in the same trade and are all working but would still be interested to hear other peoples views etc.
Thanks
