Hi, I’m a qualified social worker with 14 years of child protection experience, I’m moving from the UK with my family to the gold coast hopefully in June 2020, having recently received a 190 invite. I’ve spent my whole career more or less as an agency worker in England and wonder the best pathway to a career in the same field in Oz. So I have a few questions if anyone can help.

Is it better to go through an agency or approach local states/private companies direct? if so which agencies are best? And which local government organisations? What are the best paid posts... as I have been a senior social worker for a number of years. What is the average working week in terms of start finish times...etc

My skills are currently being assessed so hopefully that will be completed way in advance of me leaving.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
Jack

Just to confirm - you have a valid skills assessment for your visa? This needs to be valid at time of invite, not application - https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visa...90#Eligibility

Hi, no my skills assessment isn’t complete but it’s actually my wife who has the invite so it’s ok.

That's good to hear - there are too many horror stories.

That said, I cannot help with your original query. Which state are you intending to move to as that may change answers? I would think, as with everything here, you would need to be licensed / registered so there may be some information on state sites :)

If you want to work in child protection go straight to the department - here's the link for QLD with their requirements
https://smartjobs.qld.gov.au/jobtool...nter=221714657

It's also worth calling them and getting some advice directly from them
https://www.csyw.qld.gov.au/about-us...areer-contacts

As a social worker you should also check in with the Australian Association of Social Workers info
https://www.aasw.asn.au/careers-stud...yment-purposes

Good luck!
