189 + 190 visa
 

Hi all just a couple of quick questions,

if you move to aus on a skilled 189 visa as let’s say an electrician once granted and arrived in aus do you actually have to work in the field that got you entry or are you free to work in anything at all? Also is there some sort of practical assessment before entering/ being approved for a skilled visa for an electrician or other trades?


and one more has anyone here been granted a skilled visa with a class A possession caution? I know you’ll have to put it down when applying but since it looks like it costs abit of money wouldn’t want to waste time and money if for it all to come to nothing if something like that’s a deffo no no!

You would need to read up on the specific requirements for your trade - not just for the skills assessment which you will need to do before you actually apply for the visa, but also for the licensing rules once you arrive in your chosen State or Territory after the visa is granted. Each State is different! We have a poster called old.sparkles who is well versed in requirements for electricians, I'm sure she'll see your post later.
You don't have to work in that field after arriving, if its a 189 or 190.

Might be worth a chat with a registered agent, someone like George Lombard, who could give you an idea about the caution as well.

The skills assessment for an electrician is multi part, and does include a practical assessment, as well as assessment of qualifications and work experience, theory test, and safe disconnect / reconnect practices.

Working as an electrician requires jumping through a few more hoops, but once you have the visa you are not required to work in the trade.

There is no requirement to work in your trade once you arrive in Australia. You are free to do what ever you want. You are not obliged to work at all.

The caution should not be a bar on a successful application, but I would strongly recommend getting help with the application from a good registered migration agent.
