Default 176 visa - do I have to validate in state that sponsored me?

Hi,

My visa has been approved much quicker than I anticipated (4 months versus the 1 year quoted by DIAC). I appreciate this is a nice problem to have!

I have every intention of immigrating to the state which sponsored me but now I have to arrange a validation trip within a much tighter timescale than planned so I am trying to find the cheapest way of doing this.

Can I validate wherever I can get the cheapest flight to or does it have to be in my sponsoring state? The visa paperwork does not seem to specify.

Thanks in advance.

You can validate at any entry point to Australia.

Yup, you can land anywhere on Australian soil, have a holiday wherever the cheapest flights go to.

You have to clear customs and immigration at your first port of entry into Australia, as far as I know (as a general rule).
