Lucky you, house sale no problemo

We missed out with loads when we got here, we paid full wack on house and stamp duty. When it rains it pours.

Come on Peeps, get buying

I think he's more likely to slash spending than cut tax.

Yes because that will provoke more interest rate rises and my savings need a boost while I wait for a drop in the housing market.

Given the interest rates and the house prices I'm not convinced that a $3000 cut in stamp duty (on $15000) will have such a dramatic effect on demand

Agree. It's not enough. Ripper should have done more - he has such a massive surplus that he could have afforded to. WA labor are a typical socialist government - they love high taxes.

When from? Also is it true that first home buyers in NSW don't pay stamp duty? If so when did that come in?

well, you may not have to pay any... depends on the value of the house and whether you qualify for the first time buyer stamp duty rebate... i know when we bought our land we got the rebate (the land was only $125K though, not sure what the cut off is) and then we also got the first home buyers grant which was $7,000.
