1000 migrants a week still 'flooding into Perth?'
I caught the tail end of this on some radio station or another, and was really surprised. Surely it can't still be that many? I know there are a lot of 'in demand' roles in the health sector, but certainly not in the energy sector. Maybe the downturn isn't affecting permanent residents and those coming with a view to citizenship. There are a lot of people leaving around where we live, but I presume they were mostly on business sponsored 457 visas.
Sorry if this should be in the immigration forum; wasn't sure which was more relevant.
I've looked for some concrete figures on the official websites but can't find actual year on year figures.
Just curious really, so many houses on the market now and more for rent (about 20-25% more than this time last year) so it looks a bit shaky.
Thanks for any insights.

I wasn't referring to what you said - otherwise I would have quoted you
Plenty of posters on BE - including some that live in WA (bizarre I know but there it is) - hate it here and a thread like this will bring 'em out!

It's a strange environment and I'm trying to find evidence rather than read the news (or even listen to it - American politics excepted ) as the media here jumps on any story it can and can't always be relied upon for accuracy!!
Thank you

I had a bit of a search and found this:
Perth is headed for a prolonged slump: Simon Pressley
"The latest figures released by Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) shows a net overseas migration figure of 3,384 for the June 2014 quarter"
So that was last year, and thats 282 migrants a week, probably even fewer this year.
Intrastate migration is negative, people going back home over east.

Migrants arriving with PR could be returning residents, people just validating and only staying a few days......you can prove anything with statistics!

Figures could be based on something as totally unreliable as passenger cards filled in on arrival - I filled one in last month saying Leaving Permanently (for the 20th time) from Queensland, but I will still have to come back this week

Can only comment on the housing market part of your post. We're selling our house in Perth - got 6 quotes about a year ago (were thinking of selling then), and another 8 just recently.
It was pretty unanimous - the value has dropped 40 - 50k in 12 months. Mind you, I do think that the market was very overheated due to the much touted 'resource boom' that is no more!
