Default 10 months to go - can I pack yet?

At the weekend we thought we would spend a couple of hours slimming down our filing cabinat, photos and stuff in one room. However, it took us 2 day! I think you forget how much you have. Stopping to look at photos, reading everything before shreading it. I had uni stuff from 8 years ago! It got us thinking about when we get ready to do it real time next year (we plan to move over in September).

Did it take longer than what you thought to sort through stuff preparing it for Oz? We feel that we may be a bit premature thinking about sorting through stuff now, but at the sametime don't wish to be running around like headless chickens just before the packers arrive.

It's OK to do little by little right?

Yep, I would. We are planning on moving next year Sept/Oct and are already planning on de-cluttering e.g. the loft which contains loads junk and stuff we probably won't use again.

It's a matter going through everything and deciding what to do with it - sell, donate, keep or bin.

Good luck!

No harm in decluttering now. I would. Even if the move doesn't happen (who knows what will happen between now and then) it's good to clear out the rubbish (I'm doing it at the moment and we've only been here four years ).

I'm doing the same too, gradually going through stuff to sell, shred, give away etc. Gives me something to do while waiting Also means there won't be a mad rush at the end, as I know my version of packing and DH's version are two different things, goodness knows what junk would end up being shipped to Australia with us!

Yes, start now.

I took about 9 months sorting through stuff! ready for our move. Theres so much to do, when you get started. I was selling items on Ebay, had the settees cleaned, sorting through paperwork, sorting out the loft - the list was endless.

Its really nice when you unpack at this end feeling like everything is really clean and de-cluttered.

Similar timescale to us. We spent last weekend and probably most of this weekend weeding our filing cabinets (12 drawers stuffed full) and I intend charity shopping, advertising locally and ebaying loads of stuff in the coming months - all things that are less easy and more stressful to organise if you leave it until closer the time.
