is it now a good time to invest in GBP-denominated assets then?

Very much depends what assets you're talking about, the only one I can think of is housing and as a pure investment (rather than a home) that's got risks other than currency fluctuation associated with it.

Id say so. Anyone with Ozzie $'s looking to convert should do it now. You'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

No point crying in a years time when it goes back up again. As people who didn't change at 2.3 waiting for it to go back up are now...

Everyone knows the UK is coming out of recession (as the figures show). They are delaying increasing interest rates but as soon as they do the pound will be back. As for Oz do people really think an income/house ratio of 6/1 is sustainable? Maybe while the labour govt is chucking money at everyone but there's there will be an election due in oz at some point. The other parties won't be giving 1st time buyers grants, baby bonuses etc etc...

I wouldn't be sure about that. It was the other party that introduced the 1st time buyers grants, baby bonuses etc etc..

I wouldn't agree with that at all, although I do agree with some of your other comments re: houseing affordability levels in Australian cities.

Hey Martin Luther. Was it? Baws. Ah well, I'll take the $5k when we have a kid there. Some Aussie guy from Perth told me the liberals will get rid of all that. Maybe he was wrong then...

UK will still bounce back though! UK UK UK UK lol

Analyst said today that back in the 80's the pound had a lousy time against the dollar and was at parity at one point. The pound will definitely rebound. Could well be another year of pain before that happens though.

easy innit

As Martin says, interest rates will have to come up in the Uk in the next year and then the £ will start to come up. Likewise labour are chucking money at everyone in Oz right now so their rate is high but an income - property price average of 6 isn't going to last. Remember thats what it was here before the recession.
These things have occurred to me as well. All that we need is time, patience and careful planning .

Truth is no-one knows, the Uk could join the Euro at parity, get devalued or bounce back, whats important is the likelyhood of each of those events, right now it doesn't look great.

It was. FHOG and Baby Bonus both came from John Howard's government. Labor would like to change the baby bonus to maternity leave.

Some Aussie guy in Perth doesn't know what he's talking about. No surprises there

A tough question really because nobody knows the answer. I'd probably take some now and the rest nearer to June. Enjoy your holiday
