It was a freaky drop so will recover, slowly but surely! Bad news has less of an effect now so lets see what any 'good' news does!?

Up to 1.82 as a result of the Dubai problem.

Kicking ourselves for not transferring on Friday! Thought the Dubai crisis may have lasted a bit longer but the pound was on the slide from yesterday.
I'm so fed up and gutted with the flippin pound at the moment. We need to bring more over so watching it like a hawk at the moment...even getting a customer rate of 1.80 this week looks like hard work as more bad news from the UK. All thanks to our bank cutting back on our initial loan towards our land purchase - so much for hanging on to our pounds until it improves, best laid plans and all that!
Anyway, from my readings of sterling reports looks like the pound could be in for a volatile time in Dec but one guy thinks it will pick up in the NY especially if Britland finally hauls itself out of recession in the last quarter - please, please!
Failing that Oz could always produce some bad news but unfortunately at the moment even a bit of bad news doesn't seem to affect the $ much.
Back to pound watching..........

Yep, it's agony. There doesn't seem to be any light on the horizon either. Just looked and it's $1.79 - wish I could stop bloody looking. It's like having a wobbly tooth; you know it's going to hurt, but you can't stop pushing it with your tongue. Oh, just me then!

The only light is....
I've been reading a currency blog each day and this chap reckons sterling is vastly undervalued (no.....really.) and may pick up in the NY especially if Britain gets out of recession.
As everyone has got the jitters over Dubai and "new country" investments there may be a return to established countries such as Britain.
The UK General Election...
They are talking about the stock market rallies reversing next year.
Probably it will all happen just as we exchange our last bit....

Thanks Kim - keep even the slightest, teeniest bit of good news coming just to give us hope (make some up if you have to!).
I read that "Dubai" owns a portion of the London Stock Exchange - how ironic is that?!
PS, can someone please change the name of this thread - $1.93 is a distant dream now.

its absolutely horrible what is happening to the pound. inflation in the uK has to go up a lot higher because of the amount the economy depends on imports.

It'll come - and I'll be waiting!

Yeah but it will be too late for me
........ for the majority of our transfer.
Just out of interest as of course I have nothing better to do than study Sterling movements, the pound seems to peak around 3.00am Ozzie time....4 pm in the UK afternoon and then falls before opening the next morning in Oz. Might be worth those of you wanting to bring money over to set up a limit order for a set amount.
It did well last night as the US figures were good and everyone started buying US$, gold fell so the Aussie fell but unfortunately I don't think the pound quite reached the 1.80 customer rate we set....grrrrr!
Lots of UK figures out next week so could still be a volatile week unless it's all good news

:f ingerscrossed:

For those who are buying houses; are you transferring the minimum and getting a maximum mortgage with the hope of transferring further when the rate improves and paying down / off mortgage,
or
Are you just going to exchange all now, and get it over with......

Tesco: COCA COLA REGULAR 2 LTR BTL £1.56 ($AUS 2.81)
Woolies: Coca Cola Bottle 2L $3.54
Currently it is 26% more expensive in Woolies than Tescos. Come the southern Winter it will cost ~$1.80 / 2L and be more than 26% cheaper than Tescos.
It is approaching Summer in Australia and Winter in the UK so due to changes in demand the price goes up in Australia and down in the UK. The £UK has lost about 20% of its value against the $AUS over the last year.
Tap water is better - no sugar and costs nothing.
