Exactly what they want you to do - this is why the devalued sterling so much. Help exports and make people spend money on housing when they didn't really want to. IMO houing in the UK still has 40% to drop and you ain't going to have to wait long to see it. Look at the oil price down 10% in a few days, Baltic Dry falling, S&P500 down the pan in a big way. Phase II of this double dip recession is about to come home like a cyclone. I think things in the US and Europe are going to get ugly.

I'm not so hopeful this time round, sadly. Perhaps it might get a reprieve when Gordon Brown is thrown out of Downing Street next year - but who knows?

I'm dreaming of all sorts of scheme to use the money held hostage in the uk...but none of them seem overly workable.
How can you use UKP from Oz without exchanging it...theres only so much i can order from M&S online. Com'on someone must have some ideas...
It hurts to see what you've worked all your like for be devalued to such an huge extent or stuck unused waiting for a theoretical return to value or a return to the uk to live....

I was thinking of stashing a load into Premium Bonds - The UK interest rates are low, so it's probably likely to earn a little bit, plus you stand the outside chance of a big win too.

So as the interest is only 0.5% at best, the prize fund is much smaller and the earners (the 50quids and the 100quids) are not paid out nearly as much.
But you still have a repeated shot at the million I guess.
I'm paid in pounds but live in Oz; so anyone moaning about a single holiday or one off trip - get over it! imagine watching your wage sink like a stone!

Maybe close to 40% in terms of the plummet in the exchange rate. But in the medium term property prices will increase their values to compensate. IMHO, now is a very good time to buy UK property - especially if you have cash languising in a UK bank account.

if it goes to parity I'll be living in my undies!!
for Aussie to hit parity against pound it would also need to be worth 2 US$ when you look at the maths - not convinced!
