Should we take on the move now or wait a while, this is looking as glomy as the UK now

Its not as gloomy as the UK yet - by a long chalk.

Unemployment here is around 5%, half the UK. No-one (including Credit Suisse) know whats round the corner with certainty. Even if the economies are on an equal footing Aus is a nice place to be.

I was speaking with a few friends who own businesses there while visiting a few weeks ago - they're pretty pessimistic.

This sounds pretty gloomy for homeowners House prices to fall to 2004 levels

Coupled with

Prepare for 5% interest rates warns BOE

From memory both countries count someone who works something like 2 hours per week as employed.

Here's a classic one: Wifey and I went to Civic yesterday to buy ourselves bicycles. We found the ones we liked and asked the shop assistant if there was any discount for buying two together. His response was: "I'm afraid not sir... due to the recent drop in the value of the AUD our supplier has passed on price increases so our margins are now way too tight". Maybe I missed it but did anyone see the cost of bikes fall in line with the previous strengthening of the dollar?
