"...a much better than expected manufacturing PMI has been seen as a major force behind some of the latest buying.
Also seen helping to bolster the UK currency has been some positive flows on the back of leveraged, semi-official and model accounts, along with some positive M&A related flows.
Finally, and FT survey has concluded that UK austerity measures are unlikely to send the local economy into a double dip recession."

I wonder what will happen to the $ in light of the QLD flood disaster? Sounds like it will affect the economy (mines, food exports), so in turn the $?
I'm now very grateful we got $1.80.....who could have thought we'd be saying that all those months ago!

At the SCG yesterday 375ml of Australia's finest brew cost $6.20 and at a FX rate of 1.55. That's £4.03. Last week at Twickenham the UK's finest cost £4.60 for 500ml. At current rates 500ml of beer at the SCG costs £5.37 as opposed to £4.60 at Twickenham. Always liked to compare the cost of living in beer money.

Not watched this yet but...
The very low point in the pound has now passed
and also...
Dollar's rise, rate hikes take toll on manufacturing sector
"Greece is the only country in either the industrialised or the emerging world where manufacturing is performing worse"
Seem to remember mentioning a couple of months ago that the strong dollar would do more harm than good to the Aus economy.
