1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

There seem to be two ways out for over indebted western economies, either try to borrow more & print your way out (which the USA is going for) or cut back & try to repay your debts, I think the latter is the least bad choice Whether the UK is cutting too much too fast only time will tell. Going the USA route would be disastrous for the UK, and may be for them too.
UK cuts I'm very torn on. Some make sense, some are utter madness. What they're doing on defence is complete insanity.

US has a huge trade deficit so a weaker currency also means more expensive imports, what they seem to be trying to do is to destroy (not devalue) the dollar, making their mountainous debt more affordable. The US will eventually default on its debt, when you look at the figures theres no way it can ever be repaid.

Well I picked the wrong day to change my money didn't I

Ended up getting 58.7p (including an adjustment for the fee) - the XE.com rate was just over 61p
I'm happy with that though. Last time I sent my son some cash, it was less than 50p to the dollar and I thought that was good

Can't help but wonder if they're going to risk hyperinflation as a strategy....

They may get hyperinflation but I don't think the USD will still exist in 10 years wither way.
Glad I swapped a bit more worthless paper for gold this week

According to teletext late night overseas trading ended on 1.8085--my prediction earlier in the week of 1.88-1.93[?] by the end of sept seems to be coming true far faster than I envisaged. Will stick by my forecast of two to the pound by 1st Jan.Lets see what the new week brings.Any more thoughts anyone???
