The only real reason for spending your savings is to get some benefit out of it before the government reduces its value with yet more quantitative easing.

It's really hard to believe that one of the strongest currencies in the World over many years has come to this.
But then it's not surprising, since governments the world over don't want the average person to get rich or prosper. They'll tax you to hilt so you are controllable, and then anything saved is eroded by inflation, other taxes etc...

Should there now be a new thread entitled 1.63 to the pound ?

I am crying into my coffee as I've been trying to bring my teacher's pension over for a year, and have been delayed time and time again by incompetant beurocrats, and now there is an embargo on taking it out of the country. Meanwhile it is getting to be worth only threequarters of what it was a year ago and seems to be going into freefall.

How's it going?(apart from the pension of course)sorry to hear.
We have had a lot of beurocracy here with regard to jobs and training, only being on a provisional visa, but only 5 months till we apply for permanent. I think if we knew then what we know now we might not have done it...hindsight is a wonderful thing! All that said we are trying hard to look forward and not back.
