Interestingly, 1.80 is the average rate that it's been over the past year. A year ago today the rate was 2.05

I stopped doing weekly transfers when the rate dropped below $1.70 in March this year. Agree that July was $2, the last time I saw that number.

Hope to do some catch-up now the rate has improved.

According to teletext late night overseas trading ended on 1.8085--my prediction earlier in the week of 1.88-1.93[?] by the end of sept seems to be coming true far faster than I envisaged. Will stick by my forecast of two to the pound by 1st Jan.Lets see what the new week brings.Any more thoughts anyone???

Just an aside:
From the UK Telegraph:
In a move that removes any doubt about the Coalition's view on joining the European single currency, the Euro Preparations Unit (EPU) of the Treasury has been scrapped.

If we get $2 by 1st jan any chance of $2.1 or even $2.2 by july 2011
now that would really be a bonus for me. What are the thoughts Mr Wilf70 or even MrCro????

Thanks for thoughts Pemajoka.Yes I think that is possible.I'm in optimistic school of thought where the uk economy is concerned[we are small in number but growing and vociferous!!!].The gov't expenditure report in the next autumn is a crucial macroeconimic factor.Whatever happens life is going to be tough all round and Oz will be not different. They have a shocking housing bubble that will burst[Jeremy grantham--a very big hedge fund manager has forecast a 42% fall before some form of realism kicks in].There are those who think there will be a massive world wide depression---I just think we are in for a prolonged recession
