Anybody any experience of shipping a container from Ireland, North or South?
We've been quoted £3450 from McGimpsey's (Morgan's slightly more expensive) from NI to Sydney.
Does seem a bit dearer than mainland UK!

their number is 0208 686 7733.

good luck.

Cliff

Thanks for the number - will give them a call.

Got me worried now - our shippers estimated our stuff at 1300 cu ft so weve got a whole 20 footer plus groupage for the rest!

Maybe we're being excessive

We were quoted and accepted £3200 door to door, Cheltenham to Adelaide. Having settled on a 20ft wefound other things we would like to take, or the family did. got a quote for additional to 40ft. £1795. Were advised to go groupage unless a lot of items but the three piece suite for example would cost £500, so unless valuable or very sentimental groupage seems expensive.

Son in law went groupage and got hit with a number of unbudgeted costs at the other end. Primarily to do with customs inspections etc.

Default Self-Packing?

Are you lot packing your own stuff? Many of these quotes seem very cheap for a 20 ft container if they are also packing for you.

I've moved back and forth UK-US twice and it cost about what you are quoting - but for only about 400 cu ft.

£3200 is for full service door to door. they have already taken and packed a significant portion of furniture which is why we know we are getting tight on space.

Remember seeing a TV programme on poms to oz few weeks ago. They indicated £1500 groupage, £3700 20ft and £5000 40ft.

This is in line with our experience.

Everyones quotes seem cheap to what we have been quoted by Crown,

Northants to Cairns £4343 20ft reef container.

I think this is a bit high. This is without insurance. I'll see what the other quotes are like before we decide what to do.

Why don't you sell everything and buy new out there? It'll be much more fun.

Hi Markand Julie, Please make sure you get at least three quotes the price can vary greatly, depending on the removal size, distance travelled by road, any storage charges which may be incurred, materials needed by the removal crew plus many other facts, including whether you have any unusual items or high insurance value of any items, please also check that the prospective shippers use good quality packing materials hope this is of help to you.
p.s A Reefer container is quite a bit smaller than a standard 20ft shipping container, the reason these are cheaper is because NZ send a lot of these over containing lamb if they can send them back full it saves money all round, unfortunately it would be unusual to get a reefer delivered to your because of your location they are used mainly down south cheers and good luck.

Hi,

Whilst we are on the subject has anyone had any experience of taking a car and goods in one container?

I know it can be done as the movers put a mezzanine floor around the car but I was really sure how much room would be left for home stuffl. We are not taking any furniture just two small beds and kitchen stuff/personal bits and pieces.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
