Hi

This sounds about right that is what we were told at an emigrate show by pickfords and a local company for a 20ft container, this is for the contents of an average 3 bedroom house, we were given a quote yesterday for half a container and it was £2600 (although the company didnt come out!!!!) We have someone coming out on Tuesday from another company to give us a quote, will let you know what they say

The insurance fees we have been quoted so far was £4 per £100 worth. Our quote included customs charges but we were told approx $200 for Quarantine inspection.

Im not sure if they were the cheapest but we used Brittania Appleyards, www.appleyardsmovers.com and they were very professional in our shipping. They are in the centre of Hull so would be local to you. The paperwork was done fantastically and when we had the two guys (Mark and John) turn up to pack they made a brilliant job. Nothing was too much trouble at all. Just got on with what they had to do and more. Made our move a lot easier.
As others have said dont forget there are charges at the other end. Also dont expect the same quality of service as from the UK, when your things get here.

Depends what is included i.e. packing, customs clearance, door-to-door collection and unpacking etc.

I was quoted £1600 for a 20ft by a local company for self packing and including collection UK end and taking to port and putting on ship.

Now need to see additional charges at the Oz end to clear customs and get container to house, we'll probably unpack that end too as loads of friends and family around (so will cost few slabs of beer and a barbie.) Be interesting to see what is potentially saved and if worth the work.

But then we think we'd rather self pack anyway as will take alot more care and less chance of sticky fingers!

But your insurance is only valid for goods that have been packed and unpacked by professionals. So if something gets broke on route and you have packed it then you can not claim for it....

Seems a pretty run of the mill price. Not expensive, yet not cheap.
