Looking at it from another angle. I reckon the COL is $2:£1. That is you need twice as many $s as £s to get the same cost of living. Obviously regional and personal variations apply.

As a rough rule of thumb you should be okay. The only potential trap is that you take up some new lifestyle option (e.g. windsurfing) which could make your COL higher.

I exist in the UK, I live in Australia.
Cost is unimportant. |

Re: ~Cost of Living Comparisons
Average Male Full time total earnings:
May-09 Australia: $70,038 per year UK: £27,552 per year. Therefore, based on your figures $56,000 = 80% of the AUS average £24,000 = 87% of the UK average But what is 'average' in each country ? |

ABCD, if I was earning GBP32500 in provincial UK in 2001, what should I be earning now in big city Oz to stay at the same level?
(The answer will probably make me weep but life is not all about money. :) ) |

In Sydney about $200,000. ;)
It's a serious question, more out of interest than anything else, although one I could work out myself if I wasn't so lazy - and I wouldn't want to deprive ABCD of some number crunching. |
