Current mortgage through Bradford & Bingley. We took out further mortgage repayment as house now worth more than we paid for.

Agree..... we had ample monthly salary to pay for added mortgage repayment.

our bond is with northern territory treasury corporation www.territorybonds.nt.gov.au
they had the best rate of interest at the time and our agent said most of their clients seemed to be going with them.

I didn't realise you had a choice !! I must admit I thought that you just handed the money over and that was that. So can you invest it anywhere so long as it's in the Oz Government ?

Hi You can invest the bond with which ever treasury corporation you choose. At the moment Queensland seems to be gıvıng very good rates. You do not have to use the state in which you intend to settle.

The lodging of the bond is relatıvely easy - please dont worry about it. We got our visa grant about three weeks after we had lodged the money.

Hi there,
We had to make the investment as well. We were asked in dec. 03 and they gave us 49 days initially. We thougth it would be better to ask for an extension straight away and that wasn't a problem at all. We got another 3 months to invest the money.
We remortgaged the house and had the money available earlier than we thought and made the investment in feb. 04 and got the visas 2 weeks afterwards.

About how long does it take to do a remortgage ?

Is it worth doing this after meds have been requested or could you wait until the bond money has been requested ?

Hi there,
We waited until we had the request for the bond (about 3-4 weeks after the meds) and put the house on the market. But because it was christmas, we didn't have that much interest. We decided to do a remortgage which took about 4 weeks. We obviously said to the bank that we needed the money for home improvement. There wasn't a penalty attached to the mortgage for early repayment.
