Default ISP's advice for when we touch down

Hiya

Just a quick post...can some one advise me of which ISP to chose on once we arrive.

I will probably require 24hr uptime, at a fixed cost.

What are your experiences of ISP's in Oz.

We are hoping to go to Perth...if this has any relevance on the subject.

Thanx in advance

Max

You'll probably want an leased line at $10,000 a year. In the real world have a look at www.swiftdsl.com.au or www.whirlpool.net.au .

Both OWIEB and myself are with swiftel.

We are with dodo.com.au - started off with Optus, but had lines dropping out and diabolical connection speeds. Now paying about $70 for 3 months, unlimited access, unlimited downloads. No problems with connections, and the speed is as good as BTOpenworld was.

I guess that is diallup Pollyana?

I pay 50 a month for 8GBs on a 256/64 ADSL connection.

Bondi,

The dodo.com offer looks as if it's only for the first 3 months. It then goes up to either 70$ limited download or 100$ for unlimited.

Not such a good offer me thinks unless you can tell them to p**s off after 3 months

DODO and TPG offer unlimited downloads which is great if you are a file sharer. File sharers can shaft bandwidth, plus one has to consider the lifespan of a company called Dodo. A normal web surfer will use maximum 2 GBs a month.

There are plenty of offers where you sign up for 12 or 24 months. My tip is avoid them as prices will come down.
