Oh well, mustn't grumble because we got $2.489 for our wonga and the difference in profit between the exchange rate when we sold our house ($2.37) and the rate when we exchanged on the house ($2.489) is $10,440 so musn't grumble.

But, is it due to the Pound strengthening, or the Australian economy crashing?

Well, the pound is strengthening (against the dollar) as a consequence so this is more of a symptom than a cause as the pound remains equal to a unit of 1 against it's equivalent in Australian dollars.

I don't think that the Australian economy is crashing as this kind of thing happens all the time. It's merely a symptom of economic data that is released periodically as well as other factors (this is my take on things anyway...and I'm probably wrong :) )

If you have already exchanged why not get a forward rate? Once we exchange we'll tie in a rate above 2.50...

Martyn

I booked a rate for 56k last friday when it was 2.44  It had dipped from 2.48 earlier in the week when I wasnt in a postition to book and I was concerned it was a downward spiral. Never mind its better than the 2.35 it has been for a long time. In hindside, I should have booked half for security then speculated on the other half. Could have been my new suite.

Why then do the daily papers show it at $2.35.
Seen it a couple of times
