The BBC did report that the menus and price lists were correctly displayed in full view and that the tourists were given a pefectly valid receipt so maybe they should have looked carefully at the prices before ordering ? It seems that these were not just ordinary cones .

I get so pissed off at hearing these stupid 'rip off' complaints from stupid Brit tourists. Just returned from Rome myself. Took a group from our local Centro Anziani for the Papal Audience. We had a whale of a time, including ice creams at Fontana do Trevi. Huge ones @ €3 each.

Maybe the average tourist can't read ? as far as I remember the prices are on display for this too ! I'm fluent enough to haggle

So true! However my partner had one 3 or 4 years ago (and it was 15 euros then so not a great deal of inflation to be fair). It was enormous and nicely decorated- given the location it was well worth it. The shop was jam-packed with customers who were quite happy to pay the high prices, it would be Brits who whinge.

A palline at it's most expensive is 1.20 euro here. A pallina sold at 1.50 is very expensive.

My rule of thumb for any retailer anywhere selling anything is if the price is not clearly displayed and I have to ask, I probably can't afford it! ..... or don't want it.

You'd have thought someone would have done something about it before. Or then again maybe not - http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...d-8611719.html
